Soon it's Going to Rain ...

Or so the weather reports say. We live here -- we have to put up with it. But this is your vacation time. It's one thing to plunge in a pool, another to slosh through puddles. So we thought some ideas about what to do when it's really wet outside might be helpful.

Of course, one of the benefits of staying at the Stone Castle Hotel and Conference Center would be our two indoor pools and hot tubs. They are open no matter what the weather is outside. And don't forget we have an Arcade game room right next to the pools for children of all ages to enjoy.

But if you want to venture out ...

Movies are always enjoyable on the IMAX screens, and for the month of July, Branson's IMAX Entertainment Complex is have free screenings every Wednesday morning in July! All movies are PG, so whether you have children to entertain or it's for the kid in you, don't pass up this opportunity!

Not far from the IMAX is the Butterfly Palace and Rainforest Adventure. There's something magical having butterflies flit around and then land on you. And with an all-day pass, you'll have plenty of time to visit all the venues, including a forest maze and the Living Rainforest Science Center.

After lunch, the adults might want to tour the Branson area wineries. Just up Green Mountain Drive from the Stone Castle, the Mount Pleasant Winery offers wine tasting, a Wine 101 course, even the opportunity to bottle your own wine!

Just past the intersection of Green Mountain Drive and Hwy 165 is the Branson location of the Stone Hill Winery, which offers a variety of wines and juices in their tasting room.

If you want to drive a bit farther, the Lindewedel Winery is only seven miles from the Castle. They feature a variety of Missouri grown and produced wines and provide tastings Thursdays through Mondays. And on Sunday afternoons they feature local artists in concert, so you can sip with sounds!

If distilled spirits are more to your liking, the Copper Run Distillery, the first legal distillery in Missouri since the end of prohibition, is about 30 minutes from the Castle, just off US 65 N. They offer tours and tastings of a variety of distilled and non-alcoholic beverages and on Saturday June 21, Jimmy Rea and the Whiskey Shakes will be performing.

If you want to make more of a day trip of your travels to Copper Run, spend some time at Rose O'Neil's Bonniebrook Gallery and Museum. This late 19th, early 20th century artist is best remembered as the founder of the Kewpie Doll and the museum showcases hundreds of Kewpie items. And the gardens are spectacular, even in the rain.

And now, maybe it's time to head back to the Castle and one of those hot tubs! But with all these and the many other indoor entertainment venues in Branson, you might find yourself wishing the rain would continue!
